A what? A Meme. According to Rose DesRochers from “World Outside My Window“, a blog meme is: “…simply an idea, quizz, survey or a question that gets passed around from one blog to another.”
Why do I want to explain that? Well, I’ve been tagged, by Monika McGillicuddy from the “New Hampshire Real Estate Blog“. According to this ongoing chain, I am to (1) list seven things about myself, then (2) tag 7 people to do the meme on themselves, including a link to their site.
So here it goes, in no particular order:
1. I was born and raised in Germany, and did not come to the States until I was in my early twenties, after having met my husband. Dating was – at least in the beginning – anything but dull. Oh no, not anything as “normal” as hormones…we had to work just to understand each other. My English was pretty much limited to “Shakespeare had plum pudding for Christmas Dinner” and his German was equally non-existent. So we “conversed” via a Dictionary. It forced us to take our time when talking and to really listen to each other! But obviously – we’ve conquered and overcame – we’re still together, 20 years later.
2. I’m the proud owner of a Harley Davidson – yes, a motorcycle! (A 2003 Anniversary Heritage Soft Tail!) And I love it. My husband bought a bike, and I kept begging for rides. Finally, after friends were urging and my husband was supportive, I’ve decided to get my license. The final push for a license came right after I got my bike. (It was either getting a license or getting a ticket – I chose the license!) I’ve been enjoying it ever since. We cruise along the country side and enjoy the sites, as well as the ride. Big groups, racing or anything like that? Nope, not me. I’m the “leisure rider”…heck…truth be told – I even have heated handle bars!
3. I used to own, train and show dogs. But not just any dog – my favorite breed: Great Pyrenees. (They are from southern France and look like a cross between a Saint Bernard and a Newfoundland – except they are all white.) I would show them anywhere in Europe, because shows over there are very much a family affair. You sit around the ring, with other owners/breeders/handlers, you chat, watch the dogs and have a good time. We even had farmers who came in from the fields, brush out their dogs right there and went on to show! All very relaxed and very much fun.
4. I have three daughters! All Teenagers! Why do I mention this? First – because I love them dearly and am very proud of them. Second, because we either get asked (with the raised eyebrow): :Just how many kids DO you have?” Or, even better: “How old are your twins?” (Our oldest and our second daughter do look alike – I have to admit this, just to be fair.) However – no lie – after I told one lady that they were not twins, she looked at me and said: “Are you sure?”
Well…what can you say to that?
5. I’ve got to ride in a Helicopter with plexi-glass bottom! It was awesome. We flew over the mountains, up and down in the valleys (Did I mention we live in Colorado, right “next” to Pikes Peak?), and ever so often, right over the edge of a mountain, which was truly heart stopping, because the ground would just drop away from underneath you. It gave me a whole different perspective on an area, in which we drive around and hike in; suddenly it became much bigger - after being able to see it from above! After we landed, I tried to convince my husband that maybe we needed a Helicopter! But my wishes and our budget simply would not be reconciled. So I just remember that ride!
6. My “Claim to Fame” is winning an Army-wide photography contest. The strange thing was, I didn’t even know that my pictures had been submitted. A friend submitted them for me…and I didn’t find out until I received the notification for having won and the price money! Talk about being surprised! Oh, and yes – It was pictures of my kids!
7. Last but not least – (in the “weird-things-about-me” category) – I love to read. Not just occasionally, and not certain genres or types of books – I love to read just about anything. (One could almost call it “being obsessed”!) From Novels to Magazines, Biographies to History Books, Non-Fiction to Comics, Children’s Classics to How-to-books. I will pour over cook books, devour the newspaper and if all else fails, I’ll read a manual. On average I have at least a couple of books started at any given time…there’ll be one downstairs, one upstairs, one in the car….you get the picture. Like I said, I love to read. What’s your favorite book?
That’s it – enough about me. Now it’s time to tag – according to Monika – some lucky people…

Dean Guadagni - DeansGuide
Dena Stevens – Do the Right Thing
Kristal Kraft – Denver Real Estate and Relocation

Hi Sabine – very nice to read your meme and learn some very interesting things about you. Your dating must have been really interesting, just trying to verbally communicate with each other. Clearly you both worked that out!!
Monika tagged me, too, so I better get working on mine before too much more time goes by!
Ann
I can imagine how hard it must have been to converse via a dictonary. Jay and I are trying hard to learn German so that we can converse with his new found family. Not an easy thing.
Your meme is great Sabine…I really enjoyed reading it and thanks for being such a good sport and doing it!
Eric,
Thank you so much! I appreciate it. Please let me know if there are ever any specific subjects you’d like to see covered!
Ann,
I’m looking forward to reading your meme – once done! Dating was great – however – seems it was easier than coming up with 7 things about me!
Monika,
You’re welcome – thanks for the “tag”! And if you ever have questions in regards to German – I think I might be able to help.
Sabine
Hi- I enjoyed your meme. Thank you for the linky love. Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
Mariana I learned a lot about you, fascinating stuff girl; the helicopter! And a link with the McGillicuddy’s I didn’t know – German! I’m never going to think about you without a book in your hand!
LOL except for calling you Mariana I stand by my post lol. That’s what I get for commenting after one am! Love the meme, Sabine~!
Rose – Ja, immer noch. Meine Eltern sind in Deutschland!
By the way – love your blog.
Carole –
Mariana, Sabine – it’s close – I can see where the confusion comes in. Too funny. As for book in hand – you might not be laughing anymore if you could just see me on a daily basis – because it’s way too close to the truth!
