Interesting post on viral word of mouth marketing. The following excerpt is my favorite:
“You earn positive word of mouth by having either great products or world class, knock their socks off service. Companies that commit to this over the long term will have a sustainable competitive edge rather than a passing fad and can avoid the embarrassment of being outed by bloggers.”
In Phil Town’s super stock market book “The #1 Rule” he describes just this “long term sustainable competitive edge” as a businesses “Moat.”
Can a business sustain their products and services, grow, and thrive over the long haul? One of Town’s factors, the moat, is a measure of how well a company can fend off competitors through their brand recognition, secret formula, or outstanding goods-service.
Thanks! I thought it was a good article. With all the “hoopla” about online marketing etc – it seems too easy to forget that there are other forms of increasing brand recognition, business etc.
Word of Mouth – can’t beat it. (And hopefully won’t have to – if you’re doing a great job and the word of mouth ‘out there’ is positive!)
